Abstract

The purpose of this study were to analyze wheelchair treadmill protocol and to suggest a optimal physiological responses protocol effectively. Subjects were ten basketball players without disability who participated in the wheelchair basketball team. Using typical 4 protocols which completed previous studies, conducted maximum load test each protocol randomly twice. Compared and analysed maximum oxygen intake, maximum breathing capacity, maximal heart rate, exercise sustainment time and 20 second point of anaerobic threshold and the analysis of blood lactate concentration per 2 minutes, 4 minutes and 6 minutes before and after(all-out) maximum exercise test. Analysed the difference of cardiopulmonary function according to 4 protocols one-way RM ANOVA, and the difference of blood lactate concentration was analyzed by two-way (4×5) RM ANOVA (p<.05). The results were as follows. Firstly, fixed speed and constant increase slope protocol resulted in the biggest response of physiological cardiopulmonary function. Secondly, rapid speed fixed and increased slope protocol reached anaerobic threshold most rapidly, but regular low intensity exercise load could exert maximum oxygen intake and effective exercise sustainment time without early finish of examination. Thirdly, speed increase only protocol could not reach maximum oxygen intake because there was no proper promotion to wheelchair by constant increasing speed
