Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop an equation for peak oxygen intake of wheelchair basketball players through a wheelchair shuttle run test that evaluates the cardiopulmonary fitness of wheelchair basketball players. The subjects of this study were 21 wheelchair basketball players who performed vigorous aerobic training at least twice a week, and measured four distances (11m, 14m, 17m, 20m) to determine the optimal distance for wheelchair shuttle run test. Wheelchair treadmill exercise load test was performed to measure peak oxygen uptake, which is the index of cardiopulmonary fitness. The physical variables and the number of shuttle runs were analyzed by multiple regression analysis to find the wheelchair shuttle run distance for estimating the maximum oxygen intake, which is an index of cardiopulmonary fitness in wheelchair basketball players, and the multiple collinearity analysis was performed to confirm the collinear hypothesis. It was done together. All statistical significance levels of the data were set to α = .05. As a result of analyzing the data, the following conclusions were confirmed. First, the most explanatory and efficient wheelchair shuttle run test was 14m in length and estimated to be 83.4% (R² = 0.834). Second, the estimation equation for estimating the peak oxygen intake of a subject through a wheelchair shuttle run test is V̇o₂peak = 18.553+ (number of 14m wheelchair shuttle run tests) x .175 This study was conducted with limited number of wheelchair basketball players. However, it is necessary to verify the validity of this estimation formula developed by securing a large number of subjects who have been trained in other sports for a long time.
