》본 연구의 목적은 영국, 미국, 일본 등 외국과 우리나라 휠체어농구의 역사적 배경과 과정들을 이해하는 것이다. 이러한 연구 목적을 달성하기 위하여 휠체어농구 관련 선행연구들을 찾아보았고 각구 휠체어농구협회의 홈페이지를 활용하여 자료 수집 및 비교 분석을 실시하였다. 휠체어농구는 초창기부터 현재까지 영국과 미국에 의해 발전되어왔고 아시아에서는 일본을 중심으로 휠체어농구가 도입되고 발전하였다. 우리나라는 1980년대 초반부터 휠체어농구가 소개되었다. 1980년에 시작된 우리나라의 휠체어농구 역사는 휠체어농구를 처음 시작하였던 도입기, 여러 장애인들이 참여하면서 팀과 대회를 창설하게 된 보급기 그리고 한국휠체어농구연맹 창설 및 저변확산 그리고 이에 따른 일반인들의 참가하게 된 기반구축기 등의 3단계로 구분할 수 있었다. 이러한 역사적 조명을 통하여 휠체어농구는 향후 빠른 속도로 성장하고 발전할 것으로 전망한다. 본 연구를 통하여 장애가 있는 사람들을 위한 스포츠의 역사적 발전과정을 재조명 할 수 있는 기회가 확산되기를 바라며, 이러한 관점에서 본 연구는 매우 중요한 시사점을 전해 주고 있다.
Abstract
》The purpose of this study is to analyze the history of wheelchair basketball in Great Britain, the United States of America, Japan, and Korea. To understand each country's historical background and process, the study was conducted by reviewing previous researches and comparing each country's data. It also used the web-site of each country's wheelchair basketball association as a reference. Wheelchair basketball has been well developed in Great Britain and the USA. from the beginning. Started as a form of rehabilitation, it has later been flourished as an elite sport. Japan firstly spreaded wheelchair basketball among Asian countries. Now Japan's national team is placed the first in Asia. In Korea, it was introduced at the beginning of the 1980s. Starting from 1980, Korean wheelchair basketball history can be divided into three steps; introduction, popularization and foundation step. This study, reviewing each country's historical development process, will make contributions to the further growth of wheelchair basketball. I hope it would give inspirations to the researchers in the other fields for the better development of sports for people with disabilities in general.
