Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine the effects of two visual stimulus speeds and four visual stimulus occlusion locations on coincidence-anticipation timing performance in individuals with mild mental retardation. A total of 20 individuals with mild mental retardation with a mean chronological age ranging from 13 to 19 years participated in button-push task on the modified Bassin anticipation timer. There were no significant differences in constant, absolute, and variable errors between the fast and slow visual stimulus speeds. However, significant differences were found in the error scores between the four visual stimulus occlusion locations. The possible reasons why individuals with mental retardation demonstrated different response in the selected experimental conditions compared to individuals without disabilities were discussed.
