본고에서는 『산해경(山海經)』의 지리적, 신화적 세계를 구조와 반구조의 관점에서 파악하고자 한다. 오늘날『산해경』에 대한 해석적 전망은 역대의 주석과 근대 이후의 합리주의적 관념을 바탕으로 중원과 주변, 인류와 동물, 중국인과 이방인 등의 이항대립적 구조에 기대어 있다. 이러한 구조에는 역대 제국의 에피스테메(epistēmē)적 폭력이 아로새겨져 있다. 본고에서는 원시『산해경』과 그것에 체계와 구조를 부여하고자 하는 주석가들 사이의 긴장 곧 해석학적 장력(張力)에서 야기된 불일치와 균열의 흔적에 의거하여『산해경』의 반구조적 원상을 드러내고자 하였다. 그 결과 우리는 중원 중심의 지리 구조, 인류 중심의 생태계 구조, 중국인 중심의 인간계 구조를 해체하고 원시『산해경』의 진면목을 탐색할 여지를 갖게 되었다. 이러한 탐색을 확대할 때 우리는 구조화된 문명으로 가는 도상 혹은 전야의 ‘임계적(liminal) 상황’이나 ‘전개체적 실재(réalité préindividuelle)’에서 포스트휴먼 시대가 필요로 하는 보다 역동적이고 가능성이 넘치는 원문명(原文明)의 잠재력을 발견할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This paper attempts to grasp the geographical and mythical world of Shanhaijing(山海經) from the perspective of structure and anti-structure. Today, the interpretive outlook for Shanhaijing is based on previous annotations and rationalistic ideas after modern times, leaning on binary opposing structures such as the central plateau and surroundings, humans and animals, Chinese and strangers. This structure is marked with ‘epistemic violence’ of successive empires. Tension between the primitive Shanhaijing and annotators who want to give it a system and structure, based on the traces of inconsistencies and cracks caused by hermeneutic tension, this paper attempted to reveal the anti-structured original state of Shanhaijing. As a result, we have room to deconstruct the geographic structure centered on the central plateau, the ecosystem structure centered on humanity, and the structure of the human system centered on the Chinese people, and to explore the true face of the primitive Shanhaijing. When expanding this search, we will find the more dynamic potential of the premordial civilization that the posthuman era requires in the ‘liminal state’ or ‘pre-individual reality’ before forming a structured civilization.
