A Study of the Cultural Symbolic System in Ancient China: Focusing on Jing(the Well) Hexagram

The goal of this study is to examine the in-depth structure of cultural symbolism in premodern Chinese culture. For the benefit of broadening the horizon of present cultural study, it seems quite important to reconstructing that epistemological mapping through which the ancient Chinese people re-presented the world. Only on that theoretical basis should we be able to contemplate philosophically on the premodern East Asian thought and tradition. When recollecting modernity ideology constructed by the western powers during the early 20th century, the so-called objectivity camouflaged by scientific thinking was often considered synonymously with ‘truth.’ This sort of thinking, however, was proven to be the pivotal point where the serious modernity dilemma arose. What then could be the possible means to break this deadlock? This paper begins with the realization of the aforementioned problematic inherent in western modernity and tries to propose the tentative solution for the subjective construction of the verbatim ‘post'-modern.
