초록

본 연구는 성인 지적장애인의 자기결정성 기반 여가 활동 프로그램 참여 경험을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 장애인 당사자와 부모 각 5인, 커뮤니티 교사 4인을 모집하여 프로그램 참여에 따른 장애인 참여자의 변화를 심층면담하였다. 연구분석에 활용된 자료에는 면담 전사자료 외에도 현장 관찰일지와 장애인참여자 영상 전사자료가 포함되었다. 프로그램은 자기결정성의 기본적심리욕구 하위 요소인 자율성, 유능성, 관계성을 충실히 반영한 여가 활동 3가지(자전거, 댄스, 헬스)로 구성되었다. 연구 결과 첫째, 장애인 참여자들은 자신이 원하는 활동을 선택하고 참여하며 그것이 지지받는 상황에서 높은 만족감과 운동 지속, 자립성의 증가를 경험하였다. 둘째, 참여자들은 여가 활동 종목에 유능감을 갖게 되었으며 과거의 실패 경험을 극복하게 되었다. 마지막으로, 참여자들은 서로 활동에 대한 경험을 공유하며 긍정적 관계를 맺었으며, 운동을 통한 관계맺음은 전체 커뮤니티로 확대되는 모습을 보였다. 연구 결과는 성인지적장애인의 자립성과 삶의 질을 높이는 데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the experiences of adults with intellectual disabilities participating in a leisure activity program based on self-determination. For this purpose, five individuals with disabilities, five parents, and four community instructors were recruited, and in-depth interviews were conducted to observe changes in the participants. Data used for the analysis included interview transcripts, field observation logs, and video transcripts of the participants. The program consisted of three types of leisure activities—cycling, dance, and fitness—that were designed to fulfill the sub-elements of self-determination theory: autonomy, competence, and relatedness. The results of the study showed the following. First, participants experienced high satisfaction, sustained exercise, and increased independence when they could choose activities they wanted to engage in within a supportive environment. Second, they developed a sense of competence in the activities and overcame past experiences of failure. Finally, the participants built positive relationships by sharing their experiences, and the relationship-building through exercise extended to the wider community. The results are expected to help improve the independence and quality of life of adults with intellectual disabilities.
