Various literary devices giving impetus to reading behaviors ofpublic are bound to exist behind the explosive consumption of aspecific narrative. Meanwhile, it might be the work of literarycriticism to interpret and judge the network of meaning formed bythe devices in and out of the text. This contribution aims to focuson the matter of narrative as a public reading material (大衆讀物),while dealing with the issues of criticism surrounding ‘revolutionplus romance’ at that time. From this perspective, a review on‘revolution plus romance’ narrative will 1) approach the emotionalstructure of contemporary reading public one step closer, andultimately 2) try to explore how political narratives can encounterpopularity.
