AN Li-qun is a representative scholar of Chinese modern literature. After 18 years of subaltern life in the periphery, he entered the master's course at the age of 39 years old and began his studies. After his starting his professor at the Department of Chinese Literature in Peking University, he has published the monumental book about Luxun, Seeking the Soul. Besides that, he has presented the discourse of the 20th century Chinese literature, Mao Zedong’s Thought and Culture, and civilian thoughts, and he has always received the attention of academic society. In 2017, QIAN Li-qun also published the results of his research on ‘Geistesgeschichte of Chinese intelligentsia in the 20th Century,’ one of his major research topics, as a ‘trilogy’. Among them, 1977-2005: juedishouwang is a meaningful volume that it is a record of the independent ideology of a critical intellectual. In this article, I will examine the history of QIAN Li-qun's academic and spiritual life, focusing on this book.
