일년 열두 달 중에서 매달 특정한 날을 지정하여 조상에게 차례를 지내거나 놀이를 즐기고 액운을 막고 복을 부르며 그날을 기념하는데 이를 세시(歲時), 명절(名節), 절기(節氣), 시령(時令) 등으로 다양하게 부른다. 근대화가 시작되기 전 농업 중심의 사회에서 일년의 계절 변화는 중요한 의미가 있었다. 그리하여 시기마다 세시를 정하여 기념하였고 그것이 오랫동안 전승되어 현대에까지 남아 의미있는 날이 되기도 하고, 의미가 사라지면서 세시가 잊혀지는 경우도 있다. 세시는 사람들의 일상 생활과 밀접한 관계에 있으며 이는 여러 문헌에 많이 등장한다. 그중에서 편지 쓰는 방법과 예문을 담은 간찰서식집은 중요한 실용서로 조선시대는 물론이고 근대에 이르기까지 맥을 이어왔다. 본고에서는 당시 사람들의 생활과 깊은 연관이 있는 간찰서식집에 나타나는 세시를 가지고 시기별로 세시의 의미와 중요성, 그리고 시대에 따른 변화를 살펴보았다. 세시에 따른 놀이와 음식, 선물 등으로 세시의 의미를 분석한 결과 현대에도 중요하게 여기는 명절 외에도 전통시대에 의미있게 다룬 세시가 근대화가 시작되었음에도 이어지는 모습을 볼 수 있었다. 이는 전통시대에 세시가 가진 의미보다는 세시에 따른 다양한 놀이와 음식 문화 및 사교문화가 근대화에 따른 사람들의 요구에 더 맞았기 때문이라고 볼 수 있다.
Abstract
Designate a specific day every month out of the 12 months of the year. When that day comes, people celebrate the day by holding a memorial rite to their ancestors, playing with people, preventing bad energy and singing blessings. This is called seasonal customs(歲時), holidays(名節), and seasonal day(時令) in various ways. Before the start of modernization, it was an agricultural-oriented society. Seasonal changes throughout the year had important meaning. Thus, seasonal customs(歲時) was decided and celebrated for each period, and it has been passed down for a long time and has become a meaningful day that remains in the modern era. On the contrary, as the meaning decreased, the three hours were also forgotten. seasonal customs(歲時) is closely related to people's daily life. Therefore, it appears a lot in various literatures. Among various literatures, the Letter writing forms containing how to write letters and examples has been an important practical book and has continued not only in the Joseon Dynasty but also in the modern era. In this paper, the meaning, importance, and changes with the times were examined with the three times that appear in the Letter writing form, which is closely related to the lives of people at that time. As a result of analyzing the meaning of three poems through play, food, and gifts according to three poems, there are seasonal customs(歲時) that are considered important in modern times, but other than that, we can see that seasonal customs(歲時), which were treated meaningfully in the traditional era, continued even after the modernization began. This can be attributed to the fact that various plays, food cultures, and social cultures according to seasonal customs(歲時) were more suitable for people's needs due to modernization, rather than passing on the meaning of seasonal customs(歲時) in the traditional era.
