Abstract

Donald Trump, a realestate mogul and TV reality show host, has unexpectedly captured the Republican presidential nomination and won 2016 U.S. presidential election, despite all the controversies about his temperament, scandals and heretical positions against the orthodoxies of American democracy and global leadership. How signifiant is his political victory for American democracy and the world? What are the causes of and prospects for his political victory? This article tries to answer these questions through a perspective on the history of American hegemony and by focusing on the interplay of Trump’s three platforms - America First’s economic nationalism and unilateralism, White First’s racialism and nativism, and Trump First’s megalomania anti-establishment leadership.
