기능적 요소의 관점에서 본 알렉산더 맥퀸의 의복구성 분석

본 연구는 현대 패션에서 의복을 구성하는 방식에 적용되고 있는 기능적 요소에 대해 알아보기 위하여 현대 패션의 대표적 디자이너의 작품을 구성방법에 따라 분석하여 복잡하고 난해한 현대 패션의 의상 및 구성을 파악하도록 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 현대 의상의 태동기인 20세기 초기부터 적용된 기능성의 변천과정을 시대의 흐름에 따라 고찰하였고 현대 패션에 이르러 변화한 기능성의 새로운 의미를 정리하고자 하였으며 현대 패션 디자이너로써 패턴디자인까지 연구하였던 알렉산더 맥퀸의 컬렉션을 대상으로 의복 구성 방식에 적용된 기능적 요소에 대해 분석하였다. 의상을 구성하는 요소인 아이템, 색, 소재, 실루엣, 네크라인, 칼라, 어깨선, 소매에 대한 맥퀸의 의상을 분석한 결과, 맥퀸은 극적이고 복잡한 디자인을 구현하면서도 인체의 움직임이나 실용성을 위해 네크라인, 라펠, 어깨선 등의 패턴디자인에 기능성이 적용되도록 새로운 패턴을 개발함으로써 정통 테일러링을 바탕으로 한 패턴디자인의 활용을 선보였다. 또한 자신이 개발한 소재를 활용한 디자인과 인체를 구현하는 입체 작업을 위해 테크놀로지를 바탕으로 한 기능적 패턴디자인이 가능하도록 하였다. 아울러 해체적이고 극적인 의상의 형태 구조를 위해 기능적인 패턴을 개발하였으며 여러 가지 기능을 수행하는 의복의 구성이 가능하도록 다목적 디자인을 위한 패턴디자인을 개발하였음을 알 수 있다.
Abstract
This study aims to analyze representative designers’ works of modern fashion according to the constructive methods and figure out the clothes and their construction of complex and complicated modern fashion in order to examine the functional elements being applied to the methods of constructing clothes in modern fashion. For this, the paper considers the methods of functionality and processes of changes that have been applied to modern clothes design from its birth so as to arrange the meanings of functionality that changed with the advent of modern fashion. Having as its subject the collection of Alexander McQueen who investigated pattern design as a modern fashion designer, the study analyzes functional elements applied to the methods of clothes construction. According to the results of analyzing McQueen’s clothes regarding the elements consisting of clothes such as items, colors, materials, silhouettes, necklines, collars, shoulder lines, and sleeves, McQueen not only realized dramatic and complex design but introduced the utility of pattern design based on legitimate tailoring with the development of functional pattern design of neckline, lapel, shoulder lines for better body movement or practicality. Also, to use the materials developed by himself, he developed new patterns connected with function which is based on technology and introduced pattern development especially for cubic work. Furthermore, we can see that pattern design is developed to perform multi-function through his new patterns for multi-functional clothes and realize the structures of deconstructive and dramatic clothes by applying the functional elements for the formal structures.
