근대기 건축물을 활용한 근대역사관의 공간 특성

Abstract

Modern era buildings that appeared during the process of modernization after the opening of ports are variously used by altering their functions for new uses with the purpose of mostly utilization and preservation, with more and more among them used as museums. Therefore, the present study analyzes and summarizes the spatial characteristics of modern history museums that use modern era buildings and utilizes this as reference data for securing the vitalization and identity of modern era buildings in the future. The subjects and range of the study are limited to modern history museums in the Incheon, Gunsan, Mokpo, Daegu, and Busan region, which use modern era buildings for their museums. The research method involves deducting characteristic keywords of the modern era buildings through preceding studies and analyzing in detail photography, through on-site surveys of the museums, and the spatial forms, characteristics and programs. The research results are as follows. 1) Temporality was both passively expressed by the exposed use of past material at indoor and outdoor spaces and actively expressed by contrast with material while exposing a portion of the past material. 2) Participation vitalized space in connection with the modern era buildings of the region, increasing the spatial utilization of spectators through direction participation. 3) Visual continuity was expressed by the narrow space of modern era buildings and high floor hight. 4) Accessibility to inside space was made easier by connecting regional city tour bus operation with surrounding rest and experience spaces, with the purpose of achieving convenient inflow to the museum located in the old city center. 5) Symbolism was expressed in a way that allowed people to know the original functions of the modern era buildings and the architectural history of the era by maintaining the original forms of most of the buildings. The above characteristics can increase spatial utilization when museums coexist with the community in connection with regional culture programs, along with the consideration of spatial characteristics when regenerating modern history museums using modern era buildings.
