한국현대목판화의 특성과 그 매체적 변화: 1990년대 이후를 중심으로

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the trend of modern Woodcut Print in Korea and toexamine the workability and experimentality of contemporary Woodcut Print artists. The 1990ssaw the start of the full-scale revitalization of media such as computer, video, and photography,and the period in which the arts industry was generally affected. As a result of various changesin the identity and concept of printmaking, I tried to read the present works of Woodcut Printfrom the 1990s to the 20th century, and to read the overall phenomenon of Korean WoodcutPrints. The subjects of this research were "Korean Contemporary Printmaking 40 years ago","Korean Modern Printmaking 1958-2008", "Korea Contemporary Printmaking Association", "KoreanContemporary Printmaking Association", Ulsan International Woodcut Festival, National Museumof Contemporary Art, 'Layers and Spaces', 'Engraving - 60 Years of Korean ContemporaryPrintmaking', and woodcut paintings, seminars, and academic presentations. The characteristicsand medium changes of Korean modern Woodcut Print are as follows. First, it is to continue thetradition by adding modernity to the succession of the traditional working method. Second, thefeatures of past prints in terms of functions and woodcuts as pure arts, and the features ofprints that were only seen in these two are being expanded in various ways. It has been shownthat the combination of various expressions such as design and craft characteristics arediversified into various expressive characteristics. Third, they are works using the conceptualfeatures of woodcut painting. More variety works such as humanities that can be felt in thewood itself, and works showing the conceptual characteristics of prints can be seen. Through thisstudy, we will focus not only on the unique method of Woodcut Print of Korea but also on thesuccession and development of traditionalism.
