Abstract

Consumers’ mimicry has been observed in case of not only positively-evaluated models but also negatively-evaluated persons. Specifically, consumers often purchase various products(e.g., clothes and accessories) related with the negatively-evaluated persons. Prior research said this case happens in case of low motivation for consumer information process. This research focused on cognitive resource of consumers. Specifically, this research proposes consumers’ cognitive resource would affect their attitudes for products related with negatively-evaluated persons. This research accomplished experimental study. For this end, this research is composed of 2(valence of consumers’ evaluation for models: positive vs. negative)×2(cognitive resource: depletion condition vs. control condition). The results are summarized as follows. First, consumers judged products in focusing on the peripheral route(e.g., model’s salient) under depletion condition. Therefore, consumers are positively evaluated products related with negative persons more than products related with positive persons. But evaluation for person's positivity was not significant under control condition. Considering for statistical direction, consumers are positively evaluated products related with positive persons more than products related with negative persons under control condition.
