Abstract
This study was conducted on small and medium-sized domestic manufacturing companies that have continuously traded suppliers and whose supply chain location is less than or equal to secondary (e.g., manufacturers, primary suppliers, and secondary suppliers). First, the mediating effect of supplier integration was analyzed on the relationship between the switching cost to the supplier recognized by the buyer and the influence of the buyer's operational performance. The moderating effect of the opportunistic behavior of the supplier perceived by the buying firms and the re-moderating effect of the intensity of industrial competition were analyzed in the relationship of the previous mediating effect. Namely, we analyzed moderated moderated mediation model. The results are as follows. First, buyers' perceived high switching costs to suppliers had a positive impact on supplier integration and operational performance. Second, supplier integration positively mediated the relationship between switching costs and operational performance. Third, buyer perceptions of increased supplier opportunistic behavior strengthened the positive influence of switching costs on supplier integration and switching costs on operational performance. Fourth, the positive moderating effects of opportunism on switching costs and supplier integration and switching costs and operational performance were weakened by the competition intensity. Fifth, there was a moderated mediating effect of increased buyer-perceived supplier opportunistic behavior on the positive indirect effects of switching costs on operational performance through supplier integration. Finally, there was no moderated moderated mediation effect of opportunism as competition intensity increased. The analysis results of this study provide practical implications for corporate management along with academic contributions to supplier relationship management and supply chain risk management.
