뵐의 문학은 우리들의 삶을 위협함으로써 인간적인 삶을 상실케 하는 바람직하지 못한 현실에 대한 강한 불신과 항의에서 출발한다. 따라서 뵐 문학은 인간적인 삶과 그것을 위협하는 모든 현실 사이의 긴장에서 전개되고, 그 과정에서 삶의 현실이 드러나며, 허위가 폭로되고 고발된다. 이처럼 현실에 대한 고발과 저항을 문학적으로 형상화하고 비유적으로 묘사하는 것이 뵐 문학의 특징이다. 1963년에 발표한 『어느 어릿광대의 견해』에서 뵐은 양심이라는 ‘자연법칙’과 가톨릭교회에서 요구하는 ‘질서원칙’ 사이에서 갈등하는 주인공 슈니어를 통해서 인간다운 삶이 어디에 있느냐를 보여준다. 슈니어는 가톨릭의 질서원칙이 인간다운 삶을 어렵게 하는 비인간적인 것이라는 의식을 가지고 있는 한, 계속해서 그것과 맞서 대항한다. 그것만이 위선과 독선의 현실로부터 인간의 삶을 지켜나갈 수 있는 유일한 길이기 때문이다. 즉 뵐은 이 작품에서 ‘과거’를 망각하고 그때마다의 현실에 적당히 맞추어 살아가는 시대적 위선을 고발한다.
Abstract
Heinrich Böll's literature starts with strong distrust and protest against the undesirable reality that threatens our lives and thereby loses human life. For that reason, his literature develops in the tension between human life and all the realities that threaten it, while the reality of life is revealed, and falsehoods are exposed and accused. Literature that literally embodies and metaphorically portrays accusations and resistance to reality. In 1963, in which Clowns' View, the protagonist, Schnier, conflicts between the ‘natural law of conscience’ and the ‘principle of order’ required by the Catholic Church, showing where human life is. As long as he feels that the Catholic Order of Principles is inhuman, making human life difficult, he will continue to oppose it. It is because it is the only way to protect human life from the reality of hypocrisy and self-righteousness. In addition to these problems, Böll accuses the hypocrisy of the times in which he forgets the past and lives up to the reality of each time. In addition to these problems, In this sense, this work can be interpreted as a comprehensive settlement of the hypocrisy of the times in postwar German society in the early sixties.
