초록

본 연구는 타자 이해에 관한 여러 이론과 철학상담의 접점을 탐구한다. 주요 이론인 이론이론, 모사이론, 상호작용론은 각자 자신이 타자의 마음에 접근하는 최선의 이론임을 주장한다. 이중, 이인칭 시점의 상호작용론이 철학상담의 특성인 상호성, 비지시적 성격, 비판적 태도를 잘 반영한다는 주장이 있다. 나는 타자 이해의 세 이론은 각자 나름의 강점이 있는 영역을 가지며, 각 이론을철학상담 고유의 특성을 잘 살리도록 상호작용의 수준과 상담 단계에 따라 적절히 활용하는 것이바람직하다는 것을 논증한다. 이어 타자 이해 이론을 통해 설명이 가능한 철학상담 방법론이 검토된다. 일인칭 시점의 접근을 취하는 모사이론은 상담자의 주관적 경험과 지적 배경을 강조하는 아헨바흐의 고통 상담론과 연결된다. 또한, 자아정체성에 대한 성찰을 강조하는 김선희의 철학상담론은 삼인칭 시점을 취하는 이론이론의 발전적 적용으로 이해될 수 있음이 드러난다.

Abstract

This study explores the possibility to relate theories concerning understanding others to philosophical counseling. Theory theory, simulation theory, and interaction theory are the three main theories. Proponents of each theory argue that the theory they prefer exclusively provides a superior explanation about the mechanism of understanding other minds. It is claimed that among these theories, interaction theory better reflects important features of philosophical counseling, that is, reciprocity, non-directive character, and critical attitude since it takes the second-person point of view. In fact, each theory has its own strengths, which can be associated with the important features of philosophical counseling. In order to nurture them, I argue that it is desirable to appropriately utilize the three theories according to the level of interaction and the stage of counseling. Furthermore, I examine two methods of philosophical counseling, which are explainable by theories of understanding other minds. Simulation theory, which takes the first-person approach, can be related to Achenbach’s view on philosophical counseling about pain. Finally, I show that Sun Hie Kim’s method of counseling based on self-identity is a sort of an advanced application of theory theory, which takes the third-person point of view.
