이 글의 목적은 대중문화의 향유가 어떻게 한국 사회에서 가족이데올로기의 위기를 초래할 수 있는지에 대해 논하는 것이다. 이런 분석을 위해 이 글은 주체화라는 개념을 중심으로 대중문화형식이 욕망의 구조를 바꾸는 문제를 집중적으로 다루고자 한다. 주체화는 ‘나에게 그것이 일어났다’고 진술하는 주체의 위기에서 출몰한다. 이 주체화의 과정은 타자의 욕망에 대한 의심에서 출발하는 것인데, 미국드라마는 한국 사회에 지배적인 가족이데올로기라는 타자의 욕망을 불신하게 만드는 다른 욕망의 주입을 유도하고 있는 것이다. 대중문화의 수용은 취향의 변화를 비롯해서 욕망에 대한 자기 자신만의 주장을 초래한다. 낯선 언어처럼 다른 국가의 대중문화 코드는 진술의 방식을 바꾸고, 언어적 토대 위에서 군림하는 지배적인 이데올로기의 구조에 위협을 가할 수 있다. 이런 원리에서 미국드라마는 한국 사회에서 무시할 수 없는 사회적 변동의 결과를 출현시키고 있는 것이다. 이 글은 결론적으로 일방적인 방식으로 미국드라마가 수용되기보다 한국적 맥락으로 새롭게 주조되면서 유입되는 미국드라마의 소비방식을 고찰하면서, 미국드라마와 주체화의 상관관계를 해명하고자 한다.
Abstract
This essay examines the way in which American soap-opera causes the crisis of the ideology of family in Korean society by focusing on subjectification and desire. The social transformation is always already inscribed in the symptomatic representation of cultural forms and reveals in the way of consuming cultural commodities. From this perspective, this essay attempts to shed light on the relationship between social belief system and popular culture in terms of subjectification. Subjectification is the very vessel through which 'I' obtains it's own position -- I do what I want. Therefore, to watch American soap-opera means not just the problem of individual activities, but rather a social process in which subjectification takes as collective; sometimes, tastes or experiences would be given for explaining such a relationship between the social and the individual. Cultural forms, in particular, ‘popular’ cultures would render the collective desire towards subjectification. In this sense, popular cultures revolving around the comsuming of American soap-opera are firmly related to the crisis of ideology of family and produce another scene of the dialectical interrelations among the consumers of Americal cultures. In conclusion, it is argued how the changed sensibility would impact on the cultural production in Korean cultural industry.
