아동 유괴 영화의 종교사회학적 접근 -영화 <그놈 목소리>와 <밀양>을 중심으로-

본 연구는 아동 유괴를 다룬 두 편의 한국 영화 <그놈 목소리>와 <밀양>을 종교사회학적인 관점에서 접근한 것이다. 이들은 종교영화는 아니지만 인간의 고통이나 용서와 같은 문제를 기독교 신학의 측면에서 음미하는 단서를 제공해준다는 점, 두 영화에서 서사의 기반이 되고 있는 아동 유괴는 그것이 사회 전반에 미치는 영향이 크다는 점에서 이들 작품을 종교코드만으로 읽어서도 안되고(밀양), 사회를 대상으로 유괴범 잡기(그놈 목소리)라는 측면에서만 접근해서도 안된다고 본다. 본고는 종교가 개인의 실제생활에서 어떤 역할을 해야 하는지를 함축적으로 보여준 두 영화의 메시지에 주목하고, 사회적 맥락에서 종교의 소통방식, 특히 일상에서의 교회의 역할과 존재의미를 비판적으로 고찰해 본 것이다. 이 두 편의 영화는 유괴라는 사회적 영향력이 큰 사건 앞에서 교회가 전혀 도움을 주지 못할 뿐더러 조급한 위로로 그 고통을 경감시키는 데에도 실패했음을 보여준다. 유괴의 경우 시급한 것은 위로가 아니고 고통에의 참여이며, 문제 해결을 위해 전교회적으로 힘을 합치는 것이라는 점을 인식해야 할 것이다. 교회가 소홀히 했던 신자들의 어려움에 참여하여 함께 문제를 해결하려는 노력이 바로 이웃에 대한 관심과 지역사회의 협동을 제고하는 길이거니와, <그놈 목소리>와 <밀양>은 이 점을 역설적으로 보여준 작품들이다. 종교사회학적인 시각에서 볼 때 두 영화는 앞으로 기독교 교회들이 나아가야 할 방향을 함축하고 있는 것으로 판단된다.
Abstract
This article is aiming at reconsidering church’s role in Korea through two Korean films Voice of a Murderer and Secret Sun from the perspective of sociology of religion. Though the two films are not religious film, they are works focusing on the parents’ suffering caused by the death of abducted child and forgiveness of the criminal. There are serious conflicts between the victim’s parents and providence of God, because suffering is given to people by God for their own good, and forgiveness does not depend on the abductor's repentance and victim's willingness but only God. In this sense, the two films attempt to reveal the hardships the characters experienced in their religious belief, but it does not seem to be right to consider them only from the religious perspective overlooking abduction motive. Regarding that abduction has greatly impact on the society, I argue that a sociological reflection can be more significant to cope with the tragedies than having theological reflections on suffering and forgiveness. By repeating theological messages, those churches the films depict seems to fail to console the broken hearts and making effort to resolve the problem. It is in this sense that churches need to move a little away from dogma and toward setting religion in the context of daily lives, to become more relevant to society. The two films imply Korean churches the direction they should head.
