Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between religion and population reproduction. To this end, the <Korean General Social Survey 2018> analyzed the effect of religion type, belief, and attendance on the possibility of having children in the future, and when and finally how many children are expected. As for the analysis method, the analysis results were derived with the binomial logit model, the multi-linear regression analysis logged, and the generalized Poisson model. The analysis results are as follows. First, in the possibility of childbirth planning, Buddhists with a low level of faith are more likely to plan childbirth than non-religious people. Second, it was confirmed that social and demographic background variables were more important than religion when determining a more specific period such as the expected age to have children. Finally, in the final expected number of children, Protestants with a high degree of attendance expected more children than non-religious people, while Buddhists and Protestants with a high degree of faith expected more children than non-religious people. These results show that Buddhism may have absorbed the content of Confucianism as a traditional Korean religion, and that the degree of high attendance and faith in the relationship between Protestantism and childbirth can be linked to fertility.
