Abstract
This study examines the position and role of the text in the letter, Paul's self-understanding as an apostle of Gentiles, the meaning of the term “mystery” and the content of the Paul’s gospel to refute the argument that weakens the importance of Ephesians 3:1-13. First, this paper examines the position and role of autobiographical statements in the epistle(3:1-13). To this end, we argue that 3:2-13, which appears to be an unnecessary insertion or an isolated island, is logically connected to the entire content of Ephesians. Second, it examines the titles of Paul's self-understanding. In other words, it considers three paradoxical titles: “prisoner,” “servant,” and “less than the least.” Thus, it reveals Paul's self-understanding and mission as an apostle to the Gentiles who was influenced by Daniel's life and proclamation. Third, it examines the secret content of the gospel that Paul speaks of in Ephesians. To this end, this paper studies God's secret plan for the salvation of Gentiles and universal unity. Thus, it reveals the two secret contents and characteristics of Paul's gospel on universal unity and that Gentiles called as God's people are heirs without discrimination along with the Jews. These three main purposes are to understand not only the position and role of autobiographical statements, which are treated as a kind of deviation in Ephesians, but also the two contents and theological significance of Paul's secret gospel.
