본 논문은 고린도전서 12–14장을 중심으로, 고린도 교회의 분열과 갈등이라는 구체적 정황과 그에 대한 바울의 교회론적 대응이라는 관점에서 카리스마타와 프뉴마티카의 용례를 분석하여 두 용어 사이의 의미상 차이를 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 바울의 어휘 선택과 문맥상 배치를 세밀히 검토하고, 해당 용어들이 담화 전개 속에서 수행하는 수사학적 기능을 함께 고찰한다. 바울에게 카리스마타는 성령이 은혜로 수여하는 다양한 선물, 특히 12장에 나열된 아홉 가지 은사를 가리킨다. 반면, 프뉴마티카는 그러한 은사가 실제로 수행되는 양식, 은사를 받은 신자의 태도와 행위가 하나님의 뜻과 성령의 의도에 부합하는지를 묻는 규범적·평가적 범주로 이해된다. 자칭 ‘영적인 자들’은 예수를 주로 고백하면서도 그 태도와 행실로는 전혀 영적이라 할 수 없었고, 왜곡된 은사 이해와 사용 방식으로 공동체의 화합과 상호 건덕을 훼손하였다. 이에 바울은 카리스마타와 프뉴마티카의 용례를 의도적으로 구분하면서, 고린도 교회의 카리스마타가 참된 의미의 프뉴마티카로 수행되어 교회의 일치와 덕 세움에 이바지하도록 교회론적·윤리적 권고를 제시한다. 이러한 고찰을 통해 본 연구는 두 용어에 반영된 바울의 교회 윤리적 메시지와 은사 이해를 더욱 분명하게 드러낸다. 이는 오늘날 독자들이 고린도 교회의 분열 상황과 이에 대한 바울의 신학적 처방을 새롭게 이해하는 데 기여할 것이다.
Abstract
This article examines Paul's use of the Greek terms χαρίσματα and πνευματικά in 1 Corinthians in light of the recipients' ecclesial situation and his exhortation to them, arguing that Paul intentionally distinguishes between these terms to address specific problems in the Corinthian community. The apostle calls the Corinthian believers to pursue coherence in their Christian life, particularly in communal worship, living in a manner worthy of the Lord's name and of the gifts graciously bestowed by the Spirit. Paul challenges those who claim to be "spiritual" (πνευματικοί), demonstrating that despite their Christian faith and membership in Christ's body, their attitudes and behavior reveal a fundamentally unspiritual reality; their claim to spiritual maturity is self-deceptive, as they misunderstand χαρίσματα and misuse them to assert a superior spiritual status. Paul exposes this discrepancy through his differentiated use of χαρίσματα and πνευματικά, exhorting the Corinthians to exercise their χαρίσματα in a truly spiritual manner. This study thus contributes to modern readers' understanding of both the divisive situation in the Corinthian church and Paul's theological response: his charismatological and ecclesiological vision of a church characterized by harmony and egalitarian, cooperative relationships among believers and their χαρίσματα. The edification of the church stands as Paul’s central concern, shaping his entire discussion of the Spirit, spiritual believers, and spiritual gifts.
