The speech text has the features of compact structure, rigorous logical order, various cohesion methods and possessing the characteristics of both spoken and written language. With the guidance of cohesion theory originated from Halliday&Hasan, This study applies data statistical analysis on cohesion and coherence methods of 2 speech texts and their translations complied in <20th anniversary of diplomatic relation between China and South Korea—collection of important speeches and manuscripts>. This study discusses how Chinese and Korean speech texts respectively organize the texts with efficient ellipsis method. Furthermore by means of comparing their translations, this study also reveals the similarities and differences of ellipsis method between Korean and Chinese speech texts. The author believes that this study will benefit the analysis on social and cultural reasons of such similarities and differences. Moreover this study provides a perspective of how to apply the research findings of text linguistics to the translation theory and practice, and stylistics. The author also hopes that this study could offer some enlightenment for the analysis on Korean-Chinese comparative text studies in the future.
