현대시 연구방법론 확장을 위한 20세기 이전 ‘醜의 美學’의 이론적 성찰― 임마누엘 칸트·헤겔·빅토르 위고·카를 로젠크란츠의 이론을 중심으로

본 논문은 추의 미학과 관련한 근대의 핵심 이론들을 소개(정리) ․ 검토함으로써 앞으로도 계속 우리 문학계를 추동해갈 추의 미학에 대한 이론의 구체적 활용이 이루어질 수 있도록 하는 것에 그 목적을 둔다. ‘추의 미학’을 이 글에서 문제 삼는 이유는 현실적 추의 편재성을 말하기 위해서가 아니라 하나의 당당한 예술 미학으로서 그것이 우리 문학에도, 특히 현대시의 영역에도 미의 미학을 압도할 정도로 수용되고 있기 때문이다. 본 논문은 이러한 현상에 대한 보다 심화된 미학적 ․ 인식론적 접근을 위해 ‘추의 미학’과 직접적으로 관련된 이론의 소개(정리)와 점검이 현대시 분야에 필수적이라는 생각에서 시작되었다. 국문학계에서 추의 미학의 문제는 대부분 ‘그로테스크(grotesque)’라는 용어 정도로 포괄되는 상태에 머물러 있는 것으로 판단된다. 따라서 필자는 우리 현대시에 드러난 추의 미학에 관한 연구를 다년간에 걸쳐 진행하면서 문학과 철학(미학)의 정교한 융합이 절실히, 그리고 시급하게 요청된다는 것을 스스로 실감할 수 있었다. 한 가지 미리 밝힐 것은 추의 미학에 관한 핵심 이론들이 대부분 철학 분야에서 논의되고 있기 때문에 국문학 전공자인 필자의 한계를 미리 말하지 않을 수 없다. 따라서 이 논문은 주로 서구 근대 미학의 번역서와 이에 대한 한국철학계를 통해 발표된 논문에 의지해서 조심스럽게 이루어졌음을 미리 밝힌다. 이 논문에서는 일차적으로 20세기 이전의 이론인 ① 임마누엘 칸트의 <판단력비판>(1790)으로부터 제기된 ‘부정적 취미판단’의 문제, ② 헤겔의 <헤겔 예술철학―베를린 1823년 강의. H. G. 호토의 필기록>(1823)에 내포된 근대의 더 이상 아름답지 않은 ‘부조화의 미’, ③ 빅토르 위고의 「크롬웰」 서문(1827)에 씌어진 ‘그로테스크’ 선언, ④ 카를 로젠크란츠의 <추의 미학>(1853)이 지닌 추의 다양성과 구체성 등에 관한 이론을 소개(정리) ․ 검토하였다. 아울러 이들의 쟁점이 우리의 현대시에 어떻게 인식론적․방법론적 확장을 줄 수 있는지 결론에서 그 가능성을 시사하였다.
Abstract
By introducing(arranging) and examining the essential theories of the aesthetic of ugliness, this study tries to make possible their concrete applications to drive continually Korean literary arts even in the future. The ‘aesthetic of ugliness’ is questioned in this study not for presenting the ubiquity of the actual ugliness but for noticing the tendency of Korean literature, particularly of Korean modern poetry, accepting rapidly this aesthetics as an imposing aesthetics of art to overcome the aesthetics of beauty. To deepen an aesthetic and epistemic approach to this tendency, this study starts with a notion of the necessity of introducing(arranging) and examining theories directly related to the ‘aesthetic of ugliness’ in Korean literary circles(modern literature). Most problems of this aesthetics in Korean literary circles seems to remain in their state to be comprised roughly in the term ‘grotesque.’ The imminent and urgent necessity of a delicate fusion of literature and philosophy(aesthetics) therefore has been felt actually in the investigation into this aesthetics. However, there must be a previous limit in this study that has been written by a professor who majored in Korean literature because most of the essential theories of the aesthetics of ugliness have been discussed in the fields of philosophy. The limit has produced this prudent study depending mainly on the translated books of western aesthetics into Korean and the published treatises about them in Korean philosophic circles. So, this study introduces(arranges) and examines sequently (1) the problem of ‘negative taste judgement’ in Kant's Kritik der Urteilskraft(1790), (2) the ‘inharmonious beauty’ that was not beautiful any longer in the modern age in Hegel's Vorlesungen uber die Philosophie der Kunst(1823), (3) the ‘grotesque’ manifesto in Victor Hugo's preface of his Cromwell(1827), and (4) the aesthetic theories dealing with the diversity and concreteness of ugliness in Karl Rosenkranz's Aesthetik des Haesslichen(1853).
