Abstract
This study proposes the concept of Generative Performative Art as a new methodological approach to modern Korean poetry research in the age of artificial intelligence. While previous studies on poetry using generative AI have primarily focused on text generation and analysis, this study explores the possibility of human-AI entanglement itself functioning as a performative event. To this end, experimental textual studies were conducted in conjunction with generative AI using Black Leaf in My Mouth, a poetry collection by Gi Hyeong-do. Both individual poems and the collection as a whole were embodied as AI entities, forming a dynamic site of co-creation. Rather than a superficial input-output relationship, human and generative AI continuously engage in entangled processes to generate poetic texts. This allows texts to transcend fixed meanings, evolving dynamically and fostering multilayered interpretative possibilities. The intra-action between AI Black Leaf in My Mouth and individual AI poems demonstrates how poetic texts autonomously transform and generate meaning. Furthermore, an experiment in which the explanatory text of the poetry collection was also embodied as AI was conducted to examine the dynamic interaction between poetry and criticism, raising the need to reconsider the roles and boundaries of literary research. Generative Performative Art has the potential not only to revolutionize literary studies but also to integrate with other artistic disciplines, leading to multimodal experimental practices. Future research should focus on establishing a more sophisticated theoretical and practical foundation for this evolving field.
