초록

This study intends to verify the frequency effect in Chinese-L2 Korean language learners' use of Korean adverb negative polarities. The frequency of native Korean speakers' use of adverb negative polarities was used as the input frequency, and the frequency and usage patterns of adverb negative polarities were explored by examining learner corpus. The result may be quadruple. First, learners made extensive use of adverbial negative polarities with a high input frequency, particularly those occurring more than once every 10,000 phonological words. Second, there was a strong link between the input and output frequencies of negative polarity constructions, indicating the frequency effect regarding the use of the construction. Third, the learners were more sensitive to, and showed more frequent use of, higher-frequency `negative polarities+negative expression' constructions. However, the use of high-frequency negative polarity constructions grew significantly from the beginning to the intermediate level, while the growth was less pronounced between the intermediate and advance levels. This outcome is consistent with `the power law of learning'. Finally, the use of negative polarity adverbs by Chinese-L1 learners was demonstrated to be influenced by their L1 Chinese. This indicates that the frequency alone cannot fully explain the learner's negative polarity use, highlighting the need to take learners' L1 into account.
