외래어 및 그 표기법에 관련된 몇 가지 문제

Abstract

In this thesis, discussion is focused on (1) whether loan words can be considered as Korean, (2) problems concerning the standard of differentiation between loan words and foreign words, and (3) the orthography of loan words. The results of the study are as follows: First, the question of whether loan words should be considered to be Korean is directly related to the question of whether to accept the traditional standard of differentiating and categorizing the Korean language into the native tongue, Sino-Korean and loan words. Second, the questions concerning the standard of differentiation between loan words and foreign words are also directly related to the triple system of the Korean language. Third, the question concerningthe orthography of loan words should be answered in relation to whether loan words should fundamentally be regarded as part of the Korean language. The writer's assertion concerning these questions are loan wordsare in essence a part of a foreign language, thus, the current standard of orthography should be revised to a new standard of "orthography for borrowed words," and then in principle, it should be refined into a conventional standardof Korean orthography, and only for exceptional cases, allowing it to be expressed in the original form according to systematic and scientific orthography standards
