Previous study analyzed various data pertaining to housing choice. However, there is a limit in generalizing the results of the study, as the determinants of housing types were rather narrow regardless of various needs of housing consumer's viewpoint. The primary purpose of this study is to analyze the preference of housing types by household characteristics before and after global financial crisis. For this purpose, a Korean Labor and Income Panel Study data was used and the method of analysis was based upon x2-test, ANOVA, discrimination analysis. The main findings are as follows: First, the most favorite housing type was an apartment and then followed by a tenement house. Second, preference of housing type was changed into a economical efficiency than previous study analyzed by household characteristics. In other words, a tenement house relatively cheaper housing type was preferred than a detached house. Third, the household preferred detached house before global financial crisis but the household preferred a house with stores after global financial crisis.
