새터민의 사회통합을 위한 인문학 및 공감의 필요성

북한을 탈출하여 국내에 입국하는 새터민의 수가 증가하면서 더불어 남한사회 내에서 이들의 적응문제가 끊임없이 제기되고 있다. 새터민들은 정신적, 심리적 갈등을 비롯하여 일상적인 언어생활, 대인관계 및 직장생활 등 여러 분야에서 사회적응에 상당한 어려움을 겪고 있다. 또한 이들은 언어, 문화, 직업, 계층 등 총체적 차원에서 적응상의 문제를 겪으면서 사회적 소외계층, 사회적 약자로 전락하고 있는 실정이다. 새터민의 사회적응은 새터민 개인뿐만 아니라 이들을 사회구성원으로 받아들이고 함께 살아가고 있는 남한사회 전체에서 해결해야 할 시급한 문제이며, 나아가 통일사회의 남북 차원에서도 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 이에 본 논문에서 필자는 새터민에 대한 선행연구들을 바탕으로 하여 새터민들이 경험하는 적응상의 문제점들을 검토하고, 새터민의 사회통합 방안으로서 인문학과 공감의 필요성을 제언하고자 한다.
Abstract
As the number of Saeteomins who escaped from North Korea and arrived in South Korea has increased, the problem of their adaptation in the society of South Korea has been constantly raised. Along with mental and psychological conflict, Saeteomins has deeply troubled with social adaptation in several areas like language of daily life, personal relationship and work life as well. Resulted from all of the suffering factors above mentioned, they are degraded to the socially disadvantaged and underprivileged class. In this respect, the issue of social adaptation of Saeteomins is immediate and substantial problem to be solved in terms of not only individuals of them but also whole society of South Korea which should accept them as social members and live together. Furthermore it is said to have more significant meaning in the macrosocietal context of integration of North and South unification. For these purposes, I would like to suggest the necessity of humanities and empathy as the way of social integration, reviewing the problems of adaptation of experiences of Saeteomins based on previous researches about them in this article.
