본 논문의 주요 목적은 스피노자의 공동체론에 개인의 자유와 공동체의 조화로운 통합을 동시에 담보할 수 있는 새로운 정치 윤리 이론의 토대가 들어 있음을 논증해 보이는 것에 있다. 이러한 논의에 대한 관심은 2010년 한국에 몰아쳤던 샌델의 『정의란 무엇인가』 열풍에서 시작되었다. 본 논문은 우선 본 논문의 문제 의식을 제공한 샌델과 롤즈 논쟁의 핵심을 ‘간략하게’ 살펴보고자 한다. 그리고 나서 양측의 주장이 함축하고 있는 문제점을 지양하면서도 각각의 장점을 포괄할 수 있는 이론의 힘을 스피노자의 공동체론이 함축하고 있음을 보여주고자 한다. 스피노자에 따르면 개인의 자유는 본래적인 것이며 최고의 가치이지만 공동체의 조화로운 통합, 자발적 연대를 통해서만 얻을 수 있다.
Abstract
This thesis aims to demonstrate that Spinoza’s community theory provide the foundations of new political ethics on which the individual freedom and community be integrated harmoniously. My interest in this discussion has begun from the case that <JUSTICE: What’s the right thing to do>(written by M. Sandle) gained great favor popularly in South Korea through 2010~2011. At first, I investigate the core of the dispute between Sandle and Rawls. The core of dispute provides some discussion points to my thesis. And then I demonstrate that Spinoza’s community theory suggests solutions which avoid shortcomings but contains strong points of Sandle and Rawls. According to Spinoza, the freedom of individual is natural supreme right, but only be achieved through harmonious integration of the community and voluntary solidarity.
