문식성 후원자의 작용 양상에 대한 사례 연구 －초등학교 1학년의 그림일기 표현 활동을 중심으로－

이 연구에서는 Brandt의 문식성 후원자라는 개념을 토대로, 초등학교 1학년 학생들의 그림일기 표현 활동에서 나타나는 문식성 후원 양상을 분석하고자 하였다. 문식성 후원자는 문식성 발달에 미치는 주변 환경의 역할이 조명되면서 등장한 개념으로,문식성에 접근하는 길을 열어주고 문식성을 후원하고 가르치며 문식자(the literate)의모델이 되기도 하고, 때로는 특정한 문식성 또는 문식 활동을 통제하고 억누르기도하는, 그리고 이러한 행위를 통해 어떤 형태로든 이익을 얻는 주체(agent)를 가리킨다. 이 연구에는 모두 다섯 명의 초등학교 1학년 학생들이 참여하였으며, 학생들이작성한 그림일기, 교사와 학생들의 면담, 연구자와 학생·학부모와의 면담을 통해자료가 수집되었다. 분석 결과, 학생들의 그림일기 표현 활동에는 부모, 책, 영화,만화 등이 주요한 문식성 후원자로 등장하였으며 그 지원 양상도 서로 다르게 나타났다. 또한 후원자의 판단에 따라 장려되는 문식 활동도 있는 반면 제한되는 문식 활동도 있었다. 이 연구는 그림일기 표현 활동의 실체를 들여다보는 연구라는 점에서,그리고 후원자와 후원 받는 이 사이의 구체적인 상호작용을 기술하고 있다는 점에서의의가 있다.
Abstract
This study, based on the concept of literacy sponsorship coined by Deborah Brandt, aims to analyze the patterns of literacy sponsorship in the first graders’ picture diary composition. According to Brandt, literacy sponsor refers to any agents, local or distant, concrete or abstract, who enable,support, teach, or model, as well as recruit, regulate, suppress, or withhold literacy. Five first graders participated in this study and data, including the students’ picture diaries, were collected through interviews with the students,their parents, and their classroom teacher. Parents, books, movies, and comics were found as the most dominant literacy sponsors in their picture diary practices and the patterns of their sponsoring were shown differently. Also found was the fact that some of the sponsoring were shown as support or teaching while the others were shown as regulation or restriction.
