이 논문은 ‘피로사회’라고 불리는 현대 사회에서 학생들이 공부의 노예가 되어가고 있는 현실에서 벗어나 진정한 쉼과 탁월성을 누리기 위한 교육의 방향을 탐색하고자 하는 시도이다. 이러한 목적을 위해 먼저, 오늘날 한국 사회와 학교에서 나타내고 있는 피로사회 현상을 기술하고, 다음으로 한국 학교에서 추구하고 있는 탁월성의 성격과 그 문제점이 무엇인지를 드러내며, 마지막으로 피로사회와 탁월성 교육의 문제점을 해결하기 위한 쉼과 안식을 위한 교육 아이디어를 제시하고 그에 대한 몇 가지지 가능한 반론에 대해 대답하고자 한다. 이 논문은 학교교육이 진정한 의미의 탁월성을 추구하지 못하고 있다는 점을 주장하고, 여가의 개념을 재해석함으로써 흔히 양립불가능한 것으로 간주되어 온 쉼과 탁월성을 동시에 추구하는 교육이 가능하다는 점을 보여주고자 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore school education where the pursuit of both leisure and excellence in a fatigue society is possible. To this end, I deal with the following three issues: describing the fatigue phenomena that are widely dispersed in the school; criticising the problems of school education in terms of academic excellence; and suggesting alternative idea which is to solve the various problems of school education including the insufficiency of restless and distorted conception of excellence and responding some possible objections. It seems that school education fails to taking a sufficient rest and pursing academic excellence in a real sense. I show that the pursuit of leisure and excellence is compatible and possible through reinterpreting the conception of leisure in the light of the Greek conception of leisure(σχολη).
