포스트모던 이론들의 영향을 받고 있는 오늘날의 여성주의는 모더니티에 대한 비판과 포스트모더니티에 따른 해체 사이에서 여성 주체성을 적극적으로 주장할 수만도, 적극적으로 해체할 수만도 없는 딜레마적 상황에 처해 있다. 본 논문은 오늘날의 여성주의가 아도르노의 모더니티 극복의 시도를 재해석하고 이를 전유할 필요가 있다는 문제의식에서 출발한다. 우선적으로 아도르노의 ‘비동일성사유’가 여성주의를 위해 지니고 있는 양가적인, 즉 해체적이면서도 구성적인 주체성의 의미에 주목해 본다. 한편으로 아도르노는 주-객의 위계질서에 의한 ‘동일성의 인식’을 해체함으로써 주체성의 기만을 깨뜨리면서도, 다른 한편으로 주-객의 새로운 ‘어우러짐’ 속에서 얻을 수 있는 ‘비동일자의 경험’을 주장하고 있기 때문이다. 나아가 본 논문은 모더니티와 포스트모더니티 사이에 놓여 있는 아도르노 사상의 독특성에 천착하면서, 모더니티를 극복하기 위해 그의 사유가 지닌 여성주의적 함축성들을 해석해내고, 이를 여성주의 이론에 적극적으로 전유함으로써 여성 주체성의 기반을 마련해 본다.
Abstract
Feminism today, under the influence of postmodern theories, has to establish the theoretical base of its own thinking, situated somewhere between a critique of modernity and postmodern destruction. Currently, it faces a dilemma in that it neither insists on nor eliminates female subjectivity. This article begins with a critical view that today's feminism needs to revive and reinterpret Adorno's attempt to criticize and overcome modernity. I first pay attention to the ambivalent, i. e. destructive and constructive, meaning of Adorno's "non-identical thinking" for feminism. On one hand, he challenges the deceitfulness of subjectivity by destroying "the knowledge of identity" based on the hierarchy of subject-object. At the same time, he insists on "the experience of the non-identical" in a new constellation of subject-object. While I focus on the uniqueness of Adorno's thought as it is situated between modernity and postmodernity, I interpret the feminist implications of his thinking to overcome modernity and appropriate it in order to build up a base of female subjectivity.
