근대 과학 지식의 재현과 진화론적 상상력 - 이광수의 『무정』을 중심으로

Abstract

Reflecting the liberal sciences, evolutionary perspective on Lee Kwang-su literature, this paper will try to explain the modern science knowledges, the appropriated evolutionary imagination at different levels and multiple plots in which characters evolve with different look in Mujung. Lee’s view of world and view of Literature that has confessed pursued the national enlightenment from a individual enlightenment makes it a new reading of Lee’s literature through a biological evolutionary perspective. Literary Darwinism has recently provided a new critical perspective. So, this study will also answer the question "how do the modern literary discourse internalize scientific knowledge’ and also working to refine the evolutionary view in the modern novels in the question that ‘in a natural environment, how personal people would be to combine universality and particularity to go to species evolution?’ In Mujung, Lee has accepted the modern Western scientific knowledge and actively reproduce in a literary. In negotiations with the traditional knowledge of the East, he has been actively appropriating the Western modern scientific knowledge and had created a new literary theory and cosmology in the colonial Korea. In addition, Lee has develop and refine the plot structure that evolutions of the various individuals oriented ethnic evolution. By analyzing the evolutionary imagination that in Mujung, this paper research the process that the evolution of the West affects novel forms of colonial Korea. As well as Haeckel and Spencer were mentioned in the previous debate, by bringing to the influence of Emerson and Bergson, this paper extends the spectrum of evolutionary understanding of Mujung. This study contextualize a Korean modern novel in the discourse of knowledge in relation to colonial and imperial. Also it reflects the dynamism that the knowledge network in Western Europe and East Asia has in the late 19th century, early 20th century.
