It is known that some Korean particles usually disappear in spoken language. There are some problems related to this. For example, we cannot determine exactly which particle was deleted, and the meaning is changed with or without the particle. Therefore, as a hypothesis this study supposes that ‘noun+∅’ is not simply an omission of particle, but they have their own function. Based on this hypothesis, this study aims to explore functions of the first person pronoun ‘Na∅’ as a subject in discourse. For this purpose, this study analyzed 346 examples from semi spoken corpus, and found out that subject ‘Na∅’ is used in particular situations: informing possibly unknown facts; notifying speakers’ action; reminding something; confirming speaker’s behavior; asking for permission; questioning to change subject. In these situations, informing of fact is most frequent situation in using ‘Na∅’. Finally, this research discusses how the subject ‘Na ∅’ functions in these situations. As a result, it is proposed that drawing attention, focusing on the subject without excluding others, and changing subject are discourse functions of ‘Na∅’. This result supports the hypothesis of this study, and it suggests that we have to revisit the functions of ‘noun+∅’.
