초록

본 연구에서는 검사 대상자의 개인 특성이 폴리그래프 검사 결과에 미치는 영향에 대해 검토하였다. 이를 위해, 폴리그래프 검사를 받으러 온 검사 대상자 235명을 대상으로 개인 특성에 관한 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 각 대상자의 폴리그래프 검사 결과를 수집하여 진실집단과 거짓집단으로 분류한 후 분석에 활용하였다. 분석 결과, 개인 특성인 상태/특성 불안, 신경증, 외향성은 진실집단과 거짓집단 간 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 또한 폴리그래프 검사 결과에 영향을 미치는 개인 특성을 확인하기 위해 이항 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 폴리그래프 검사 결과에 유의미하게 영향을 주는 개인 특성을 확인할 수 없었다. 즉 상태/특성 불안, 신경증, 외향성은 실제로 진실집단과 거짓집단을 분류하는데 예측력이 없었다고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 결과는 수사 현장에서 검사 대상자의 개인 특성이 폴리그래프 검사 결과에 미치는 영향에 대한 과학적 근거를 제시할 수 있을 것이며, 검사 전 대상자의 알권리를 충족시키는데 도움을 줄 것이다.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of suspects’ individual traits on polygraph test results. A total of 253 suspects were measured for individual traits such as state/trait anxiety, extraversion, and neuroticism. The suspects were then classified into truth and lie groups based on the results of polygraph tests. We found no statistically significant differences in individual traits between the lie and truth groups. We also used binary logistic regression analysis to confirm the individual traits that affect polygraph test results. The results indicate that individual traits do not significantly affect polygraph test results. In this study, state/trait anxiety, extraversion, and neuroticism were not predictive in classifying truth and lie groups. These findings could provide scientific evidence for the effect of suspects’ individual traits on polygraph test results in the investigative domains. It will help meet suspects’ right to know before the polygraph test.
