Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the lecture activities and implications of Sofa Bang Jung-hwan. Bang jung-hwan’s lecture activities will be confirmed 84 times, starting with a literary lecture titled 「Novel 813」 when he was at Boseong Technical School on June 6, 1920. However, 84 of his lectures were conducted in 1920 when he participated in the Josun Student Conference and 1921 Tokyo Branch of the chondogyo Youth Association, and most of the lecture areas were nationwide, but Seoul was active. Most of the lectures in the early 1920s were on the subject of the reality and tasks of colonial josun, such as Liberating Children, Try, and To Live Well, and from the mid-1920s, they were converted to juvenile issues, children’s education, and home education. This is because his activities were devoted to the juvenile movement. The implications of Bang jung-hwan’s lecture activities are largely understood in three ways. The first was chondogyo of propaganda and missionary lectures. This was natural for Bang jung-hwan as a chondogyo, and most of the lectures related to chondogyo were held when there was a religious anniversary or commemorative event. The second was a lecture on juvenile issues. This accounts for most of the Bang jung-hwan lecture activities. Bang jung-hwan, who participated in the organization of the chondogyo Youth Association and the Saekdong Association(색동회), was more interested in juvenile issues than anyone else, and actively advocated the establishment of a “Children’s Problem Research Association” to take charge of juvenile issues. The third was a lecture on the reality and tasks of josun. Lectures related to this were mainly during youth at Boseong Technical School and studying in Tokyo. He participated in the josun Student Conference and the Tokyo Branch of the chondogyo Youth Association and gave lectures while touring the country. The contents of the lecture were suspended during the lecture because they were said to violate the Japanese colonial policy, and the lecture was changed to give a lecture.
