순원 소설의 ‘플롯’ 분석과 소설교육 - 「그늘」을 중심으로-

Abstract

This paper attempts to analyze the structural frame inherent in the novel through the plot analysis of “The Shade,” a short story by Hwang, Sun-won and, examine its fictional speaker and his consciousness as a writer. Also, by considering the plot analysis and the writer's consciousness as basic materials for teaching the novel, this paper tries to find some effective methods to teach the novel through analyzing the plot. The main objects for the plot analysis, who are the characters related closely with the main character, ‘a Young man’ in “The Shade,” are the relations between ‘a Young man’ and ‘Southern man,’ ‘a Young man’ and ‘ the Owner of the pub’ and ‘a Young man’ and ‘ an Old man.’The Chapter of ‘The Plot and Teaching the novel, “The Shade”’ tries to examine methods to teach the novel with the main 17 aspects which are the core events of the narration. The first method is to understand the meaning of the main 17 aspects, which is related with increasing the pleasure of reading the novel by following the change of its narration. The secondary one is to understand the main context through the networks among main aspects. Teaching the novel through the plot analysis is a method to understand delicately the conflict of characters related with main events of the plot, and is meaningful in that it can make it easy for students to understand the plot and the subject which are developed from the laying of events and characters.
