Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a power training program on physical performance (SPPB, ULLS, TUG), cognitive function (CIST), and falls efficacy scale (M-FES) in elderly women. A total of 19 women aged 65 and older (power training group, n=11; weight training group, n=8) participated in the study. They performed exercise three times a week for 8 weeks, with each session lasting 60 minutes at an intensity of 30-40% of 1RM. The results are as follows. Regarding the SPPB, the 4m walking speed significantly decreased only in the PTG after the intervention, while the 5-time sit-to-stand test showed a significant decrease in both groups, and the total SPPB score significantly increased in both groups. In terms of upper and lower limb strength, both groups showed significant increases in left-hand grip strength and the 30-second sit-to-stand test, and the TUG score significantly decreased. In cognitive function and fall efficacy, only the PTG showed a significant improvement. These results suggest that power training may be more effective than weight training in improving cognitive function, falls efficacy scale, and walking ability.
