Abstract
Purpose The purpose of this study was to analyze the structural relationship of peer relationship, life skills development, and transfer in Taekwondo adolescent trainees. Method Data were collected from 290 middle and high school students participating Taekwondo training regularly, and 278 (male 243, female 35) were used for the analysis. SPSS and AMOS 24 version were utilized for descriptive statistics, correlation, and structural equation model. Results The sub-factor of peer relationship, except self-esteem enhancement and supportiveness, loyalty and intimacy, things in common, and companionship and pleasant play had positive effect on life skills development. For the life skills transfer, however, only companionship and pleasant play effected positively, and other factors were not statistically significant. Finally, life skills development had a positive effect on transfer. Conclusion Positive peer relationships are closely linked to the life skill development of adolescent Taekwondo practitioners, but there is a lack of direct impact on the transfer. Therefore, it is necessary for instructors not only to form positive peer relationships but also to teach life skills deliberately and strategically.
