바울은 로마서에서 어떻게 논지를 전개하는가? 학자들은 선적, 논리적견지에서 바울의 논지 구조를 파악하려고 한다. 하지만 많은 측면에서 바울의 서신은 이러한 선적, 논리적 관점으로 이해되지 않는다. 예를 들어서로마서 6:5의 표현이 6:8에서 반복되고, 6:17-18의 표현이 6:20-22에서 반복된다. 바울은 왜 불필요하게 같은 단어들을 반복하는가? 바울의 논지 전개는 본시 비논리적인가? 서구식, 논리적, 문법적 관점으로만 바울의 서신을 파악하려고 할 때는 이해할 수 없는 측면이 등장함이 사실이다. 로마서6장을 접속사중의 선적, 논리적, 문법적 견지에서 이해한 중요한 학자들중 한 명은 Stephen Levinsohn이다. 우리는 첫번째로 어구 관계를 무시한Levinsohn의 접속사 중심의 논리적 이해가 타당하지 않음을 밝힐 것이다. 특히 Levinsohn이 놓치고 있는 것과는 달리, 우리는 본 논문에서 바울의문체를 이해해야 하며, 특히 어구들 간의 관계를 밝혀야 하고, 특히 이것을 위해 바울의 교차대구법과 병행법을 이해해야한다고 주장할 것이다. 우리는 먼저 로마서6장 전체에서 바울이 어떠한 역교차 구조와 병행법을사용하고 있는지 검토할 것이다. 또한 두 번째로 우리는 본 논문에서 역교차구조의 관점에서 바울 서신을 이해하는 것과 문법적인 관점에서 이해하는 것이 서로 상충되지 않으며 오히려 서로를 보완해 줄 수 있음을 보일것이다. 세 번째로 이러한 연구를 바탕으로 로마서 6장 전체의 구조와 촛점을 우리가 더욱 잘 이해할 수 있으며, 바울의 문체와 어구들간의 관계를 이해하는 것이 바울 서신을 이해하는데 얼마나 유용할 수 있는지 보일 것이다. 특히 역교차 구조의 중심과 6:15의 기능, 역교차 구조, 병행법 안에서의 접속사들의 기능 (특히 추론을 나타내는 접속사들의 기능), 6:16에나타난 수사적 질문의 기능, 그리고 키워드들의 반복등에 관하여 살필 것이다.
