METT-TC에 의한 명량해전 승전요인 분석

Abstract

This paper derives from a purpose to decipher the meaning of “ChunHeng” (GradeofGod), which is written by heroic Admiral Lee, Soon-Shin in his “Diary of War Against Japanese Invasion”. After a thorough research, it was concluded that the hidden meaning of “Chun Heng ”turns out to be“ A victory out of unfavorable and unpredictable circumstances”. The battle of Myeong-Nyang is an exemplary battle that have set new paradigm for the basic principle of war: the law of “the survival of the fittest”. During this battle, Chosen Navy dominated Japanese Navy which had 10 times more forces than Chosen Navy had.We made efforts to discover how Chosen Navy could achieve victory under the unsurmountable adversities. Ergo, the paper mainly focuses on how Chosen Navy overcame factors that discourages soldiers and we used METT-TC as an analysis method. The analysis reveals several factors that led to Chosen victory: first, Admiral Lee meticulously prepared for the game-plan, and scrutinized accurate situation awareness. Second,he actively scouted Japanese forces in order to read their purpose and stratagem before going into battle. Third and most crucial, Admiral Lee lured Japanese forces to narrow straits where it gave Chosen Navy significantgeological advantages over Japanese forces. This allowed Chosen Navy to beleaguer Japanese vessels with cannons when they were trapped and aggregated, and Japanese made a tactical error of using mid-size vessels against Chosen's large sturdy structured vessels in small space. Fourth, Admiral Lee's self-sacrificing leadership led his soldiers to overcome extreme anxiety resulting from fear which allowed soldiers to discipline themselves and execute their most compatible combative orders(Cannon attack→Arrow attack→Coordinated attack with 2～3 vessels) with Maginot Line attitude. Lastly, sea current and northerly wind acted favorably to Chosen Navy at the time. This research analyzes the history of Myeong-Nyang Battle in depth, which led to deriving military scientific factors that contributed to the victory.
