이 글은 20세기 전반기 중국 정치학의 발전을 학문 제도의 확대 발전과 학문적 정체성과 정당성을 확보해 가는 제도화 과정을 중심으로 고찰한 것이다. 중국 정치학의발전 과정은 대체로 소개와 도입, 성립과 제도화, 그리고 응용과 토착화 시도 단계로진행되어 왔다. 여기서는 주로 베이징 대학과 칭화 대학, 그리고 시난연합대학의 정치학과 발전 과정, 정치학과 관련한 전국적인 학회의 조직과 활동, 그리고 중요한 정론(政論) 매체의 등장과 정치학의 참여를 살펴본다. 중국 정치학은 일찍이 사회과학전문 분야로서 대학 내의 학문적 권위를 확립했을 뿐만 아니라 체제 전환기의 정치적 과제와 정책에 관한 비판적・건설적 담론과 사회적 계몽에 참여하는 개혁적 역할을 했다.
Abstract
This essay is to describe the development of political science as a academic discipline in China in the first half of twentieth century, especially focused on the institutionalization. Political science in China has evolved through three broad phases, those are ‘introduction phase’, ‘institutionalization phase’, and ‘accommodation phase’. In this essay, mainly be investigated the establishment of university departments, national scholarly associations, and professional journals on political affairs. Chinese political science had been making notable advances and attained legitimate authority as an independent field of social sciences until the government of PRC withdrew political science from university academic program on the pretext of higher education reform in 1952.
