Abstract
Fly Data Recorder by Kim Ae-ran is set in an imaginary island called "Fly Data Recorder" that is a cosmos space like a "modern myth." The Riverside Village by Jeon Gyeong-rin describes the "Riverside Village, which is the village where the character's fake cousin's grandparents on the mother's side live, as a Utopian space. In these two novels whose main characters are children, the particularly created spaces are connected to the unique family composition and expand the narratives. In Fly Data Recorder, the "black box," which falls from the airplane, is transformed into "mother," which presents a strange form of familialization. In The Riverside Village, the grown-ups hurriedly recruit village people to act as the fake family of the grandparents on the mother's side. As these processed elements are mobilized, the world of childhood innocence is destroyed. The semantic network of the growth point in the course, however, stands in its relations with the archetypical structurization of family. The changing forms of family in the modern society have made the issues of children at the growth phase emerge fast. It is no exception in the contemporary Korean literature where "children's growth" becomes a sharp thesis with the overall growth environment becoming a task of reflection. This study focused on the "existence" of children at the growth phase who were forced to find a breakthrough for their growth in the process of having short-term external experiences in the middle of a family crisis and going through a crippling injection of maternal love confused by the invasion of a monster body. It also examined the space arrangement of narrative relations. The differentiation of spatial composition where children at the growth phase belong corresponds to the changing family structure and reinforce the overall narrative effectively. The emotions of deficiency and loss during childhood due to the absence of parents, crisis of family destruction, or family deviance have effects on children's growth and development in a mental mechanism, which has suppressive influences on them throughout their lives and is manifested in their disharmony with the world. The present study paid attention to the trend of the family destruction crisis due to grown-ups' deviation becoming a new discourse of family narratives since a space at the growth point could have enormous impacts on the establishment of human existence that should grow a mature ego by making relations with families and others, given an inquiry into childhood years when children had no room to design a path in the interspersion process of a long life. Just like children's time is different from adults' time, in particular, children's place experiences are different from adults' place experiences. It is because they have different sensible and mental abilities and also different feelings about time from each other. Under the logic that intense experiences, however short they might be, could change the entire life, the present study examined young children's different experiences with spatial situations affecting their growth phase from adults' experiences through "topicalization."
