초록

본 연구는 미국과 중국의 우주 개발 경쟁을 지정학적 측면에서 분석한 것이다. 지정학은 국가 간의 정치권력과 지리적 환경의 관계를 밝히는 학문 분야이다. 본 글에서는 우선 우주를 해양에 견주어서 해양 지정학 이론에서 차용해 변형한 개념인 ‘우주 통제’와 ‘우주력’을 제시한다. 그리고 우주 통제라는 궁극의 목적을 달성하기 위한 우주력을 어떻게 구성하고 있는지를 검토한다. 이를 통해 미국과 중국의 지정학적 경쟁을 정리하고, 양국 간의 경쟁의 지속 가능성을 전망한다.

Abstract

This study analyzes the outer space competition between the United States and the China from a geopolitical perspective. Geopolitics is a discipline that reveals the relationship between political power and the geographic environment among countries. First of all, this article presents the concepts of 'command of the space' and 'spacepower', which are transformed by borrowing from sea power theory. And it examines how the space force is constructed to achieve the ultimate goal of space control. Through this, geopolitical competition between the United States and China is summarized, and the sustainability of competition between the two countries is predicted.
