사도 바울은 자연법 역사의 초기에 활약한 인물이지만 그의 법 이해에 대해서는 많은 부분이 명확하지 않은 채 남아있다. 그는 그리스도교의 제2의 창시자라는 명칭이 뒤따를 정도로 그리스도교 역사에서 큰 영향력을 인정받고 있다. 특히 그가 확립한 이신칭의의 교리는 종교개혁 이후로 바울신학을 대표한다고 여겨졌다. 하지만 서구 현대사가 목도한 반유대주의 비극의 근원에 대한 반성으로부터 바울 해석의 전통을 전면적으로 재검토하는 연구가 최근까지 수십 년간 진행되었다. 바울서신의 노모스 비판을 반유대주의로 연결짓는 해석은 잘못이라는 것도 그런 연구가 도달한 결론의 하나이다. 한편 바울은 유대 율법뿐 아니라 그리스-로마 전통의 노모스에 대해서도 비판했다고 알려졌다. 분명하지 않아도 바울의 비판에는 스토아 철학의 자연법에 대한 이해도 담겨있다고 보는 것이다. 본 논문의 목적은 바울의 노모스 비판과 관련한 연구 경향을 소개하고 바울이 노모스를 대신해 새롭게 제시한 그리스도의 법을 공동선 개념을 중심으로 살펴보는 것이다. 결론으로 로마서 2장 14-15를 그리스-로마 전통의 자연법 관념에 비추어서만 살펴보려는 접근은 바울 사상의 중심이 무엇인지 놓칠 수 있으며, 바울 사상의 중심은 그리스도의 새로운 법의 실천에 있다는 것, 이 법은 이웃사랑과 그리스도인의 시민적 삶을 결합하는 연결점이라는 것, 그리스도교인은 그리스도의 새 법을 실천함으로써 하나님 나라의 시민으로서 주권적 통치에 참여하고 공동선을 성취하며 온전한 자유를 누리는 것이라 주장했다.
Abstract
St. Paul had been regarded for his influence in Christian history to the extent that he was named the second founder of Christianity. Since the Reformation, the doctrine of justification by faith has been considered to represent the core of Paul's theology. However, modern history witnessed the anti-Semitic tragedies and reflected on the tragedy's origins. As a result, research has been conducted for decades until recently to review the traditional interpretation of Paul's theology. There is an interpretation that links the criticism of Nomos mentioned in Pauline's letters to antisemitism, and one of the conclusions reached by such research is that such an interpretation is wrong. This article aims to introduce the research trend related to Paul's criticism of Nomos and to examine Paul's newly proposed law of Christ, focusing on the concept of the common good. In conclusion, this paper argues that the approach to examining Romans 2:14-15 in light of the Greek-Roman idea of natural law misses the core of Paul's thought. In addition, it argues that the key to Paul's thought lies in the practice of the new Christian law, which is the link between love for neighbors and the life of Christian citizens. Finally, it argues that by practicing Christ's law Christian citizens participate in sovereign rule of God's kingdom.
