Abstract

The Common Commercial Policy of the European Union(EU) aims to expand its economic interests, relating with the regulative issues at the external policy. However, the EU reestablished its prior strategy to expand its market after the Doha Development Round collapsed in 2005. The EU adopted the Global Europe Strategy in 2006 and pressed ahead with FTAs with the Asian emerging countries. The Strategy was an action plan to settle down the Lisbon Strategy and to restore the financial crisis, strongly supported by the Member States and industrial sectors. The Common Commercial Policy(CCP) had reverted to the exclusive competence of the EU since the Treaty of Lisbon had taken effect in 2007. Besides, the European Parliament had become to play a significant role as a co-decision maker by the application of the Ordinary Legislative Procedure(OLP) to the CCP. Against this background above the European Commission was given the rights to negotiate external trades on behalf of member states and it has effectively improved the EU’s economic interest in the Korea-EU FTA.
