2023년 5월 28일, 튀르키예의 에르도안 정부는 지진이라는 재앙과 지속적인 경제위기에도 불구하고 사실상 종신집권에 성공했다. 특히, 52 대 48이라는 튀르키예의 2023년 대선은 에르도안 정부의 가장 큰 위기였음에도 불구하고, 국가-민족주의에 기반을 둔 일련의 슬로건을 통해 재집권에 성공한 것이다. 에르도안 정부의 재집권은 튀르키예의 방위산업화에도 유의미성을 지니고 있다. 곧, 중견국 내지는 후발국의 방위산업이 정치-이념적 요인이 강조되고 있다는 점을 고려하면, 에르도안 정부의 방위산업은 단순한 산업이 아니라 국가-민족적 성과인 동시에 그 자체로 지향점이 될 수 있다. 이에 따라, 본 연구는 2023년 튀르키예의 대통령 선거와 에르도안 정부가 강조하고 있는 민족주의를 방위산업과 연결하여, 튀르키예 방위산업화에서 이념적-정치적 요인이 갖는 역할과 함의를 찾고자 한다.
Abstract
On May 28, 2023, despite the catastrophe of an earthquake and a persistent economic crisis, the Erdogan administration in Turkey succeeded in what can essentially be considered a lifetime grip on power. Notably, the 2023 Turkish presidential election, with a close result of 52 to 48, was Erdogan's most significant crisis. Nevertheless, he retained power through slogans grounded in state nationalism. The re-election of the Erdogan government also holds significance for the defense industrialization of Turkey. Considering that the defense industry of latecomers or developing states is greatly affected by its political-ideological factors, the Turkish defense industry under Erdogan is not merely an industry; it embodies a nationalistic achievement and can regarded as a national orientation itself. Therefore, this study examines the 2023 presidential election in Turkey and the nationalism emphasized by the Erdogan administration, linking it to the states' defense industrialization. It seeks to uncover the role and implications of ideological-political factors in the defense industrialization of Turkey.
