Abstract

European countries have shown great performance on environmental issues since environmental problems have received great global attention. This study attempts to explore the relationship between green party support and the atmosphere environmental index by analyzing recent data in 28 European countries. This study finds that the atmosphere environmental index enhances as green party support increases. Also, the level of corporatism importantly moderates the relationship between the atmosphere environmental index and green party support: the effect of green party support increases if the level of the corporatism index is above the average whereas the effect of green party support decreases if the level of corporatism index is below the average. This means that the effect of green party support on the enhancement of the atmosphere environment in Nordic countries and Western Europe is relatively small because these regions show a higher level of corporatism. On the other hand, the effect of green party support plays a more important role in enhancing the atmosphere environment in countries with low corporatism such as Eastern Europe.
